Nigerian stocks in 2026: +61.0% in naira, +77.2% in dollars, +84.1% in Canadian dollars
The NGX All-Share Index, year to date, as of 29 Sept 2026. The figures update with the data every trading day.
NGX All-Share Index, from its last close of 2025 to 29 Sept 2026. Exchange rates as of 30 Sept 2026.
Why the three numbers differ
In naira, +61.0%. This is the index's own change, from 156,492.36 points at the end of 2025 to 251,913.20 on 29 Sept 2026. It is what an investor counting in naira saw.
In US dollars, +77.2%. A dollar bought ₦1,456.92 at the end of 2025 and ₦1,323.78 on 30 Sept 2026, so the naira gained 10.1% against the dollar. Every naira is worth more dollars than at the end of 2025, which is why the dollar return is higher than the naira return.
In Canadian dollars, +84.1%. The Canadian dollar itself weakened against the US dollar (US$1 bought C$1.3695 at the end of 2025 and C$1.4229 on 30 Sept 2026). So a Canadian dollar bought ₦1,063.86 at the end of 2025 and ₦930.31 on 30 Sept 2026: the naira gained 14.4% against it, and the Canadian-dollar return is higher than the US-dollar one.
Method
The index. The NGX All-Share Index, from the Nigerian Exchange's own published history. Year to date = latest level ÷ last close of 2025 − 1. It is a price index: dividends are not included.
The currencies. USD/NGN and USD/CAD reference rates (Yahoo Finance daily series), from each one's last close of 2025 to its latest quote, on 30 Sept 2026. These are mid-market rates, not what a bank or a transfer service charges. The converter shows the latest quote, which can differ from the daily close used here by a fraction of a percent.
The arithmetic. Dollar return = (1 + naira return) ÷ (1 + change in USD/NGN) − 1. Canadian-dollar return = (1 + dollar return) × (1 + change in USD/CAD) − 1. The same formulas as on Africa vs the world and in the methodology.
Two dates. The index is dated by its session (29 Sept 2026), the rates by their quotes (30 Sept 2026). They can be a day apart.
An index return is not what an investor would have made: fees, liquidity and getting money out of the country all count. Past returns, not investment advice.
